At the WV Landlords Association Board Meeting in October, an idea was brought up by Bob Ingram that quickly drew the board’s attention. It was a bold idea, but was quickly embraced by all in attendance. Before making such a drastic change, we want to get as much input from the general membership as possible.

Let us back up and explain why such a bold move may be warranted. The WVLA, like almost all other organizations today, is facing many struggles. Some of which have been dwindling membership, poor participation, a decline in the number of active chapters (Local chapters have gone from 10 a short time ago to only 5 currently), difficulty in finding local officers, failure of local chapters to report their finances to the IRS or the state WVLA, etc.

The consensus that emerged was that our association needed to be reorganized in order to survive and thrive. The proposed idea is to abandon the local chapter concept in lieu of a comprehensive statewide organization. The members in attendance seemed to agree that: communication could be maintained through a statewide newsletter and website at www.wvlandlordsassociation.com; political action would be strengthened with specific lobbying efforts during the 60 day legislative session; and centralizing a dues structure would increase state resources allowing for a greater legal and lobbying presence. There would also be the opportunity for local meetings but without the formality of having local officers.

Of course, for any reorganization plan to reach fruition, it requires leadership. And that brings us to our next request. Please send nominations for any and all offices to the current secretary, Marlene Ingram at rhingram34@frontier.com or 304.780.4800 as soon as possible. These will be turned over to our Nominating Committee.

Thank you for your time and consideration in helping to bring this organization into a new light and to keep a strong presence locally and statewide for our business.
